Background and Prior Education
Prior to my career in functional health, I spent nearly two decades in secondary education and instructional design. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Elmhurst College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University. In addition to my academic focus, I was a girls’ varsity soccer coach and former competitive player myself. My years in the educational arena armed me with a broad base of skills for helping my clients understand and apply health-building tools.
I consider myself a lifelong learner and avid reader particularly in the areas of healing, wellness, the mind-body connection, and neuroscience. I keep current on the latest research, trends and medical breakthroughs, and am inspired by the works of Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Candace Pert, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Joe Dispenza, and Lisa Wimberger (founder of The Neurosculpting Institute – Denver, CO.), and Annie Hopper (founder of Dynamic Neural Retraining System).
A Life's Calling
My passion for holistic health evolved from my own experiences with debilitating long-term pain and illness that began when I was 26 years old after living abroad in Central America.
In my quest to regain my health, I spent over a decade consulting with countless practitioners, implementing numerous therapies and making recommended lifestyle and dietary changes yet still struggled with fatigue, pain, and illness on a regular basis.
It wasn’t until I began formally studying and applying the principles of functional and mind-body medicine did I begin to unravel my health issues at the root causes and tap into my body’s true healing potential.
The Road to Deep Healing and Transformation
Through specific and targeted functional lab workups, I discovered I had late stage HPA-axis dysfunction and significant hormone imbalances. I also uncovered that she had impaired digestion and absorption, leaky gut, hidden food sensitivities- causing low grade inflammation, oxidative stress, liver congestion, gastrointestinal infections, and much more.
By implementing science-based, natural protocols, as taught within the functional medicine paradigm, I was able to begin restoring normal function and bring my body (and mind) back into a state of balance.
While correcting physiological imbalances, I also engaged in regular and consistent practice of mind-body applications and Neurosculpting® in order to address the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of healing. I now uses these practices for personal and professional growth as well as to navigate the stressors of daily life. My wide spectrum of personal experiences and formal training has helped me to better understand what builds health and wellbeing and what blocks it.
